As automakers transition to digital mobility, real-time solutions enable the Internet of Things in cars

Networking software provider Mavenir is committed to providing cloud-native solutions that can run on any cloud, ushering in the future of cloud-native solution networks. Today, Mavenir announced the deployment of its cloud-based remote packet gateway for Deutsche Telekom IoT GmbH in North America, with initial use cases focused on providing iot connectivity technology to several industry-leading automotive manufacturers.

Consumer behavior in the automotive industry is changing, with consumers paying more attention to eco-friendly mobility and fewer viewing cars as status symbols. Electric vehicles and shared cars are the mainstream trends today, and the emergence of connected cars around the world will eventually make autonomous driving a reality. This certainly puts pressure on automakers and suppliers to meet higher supply chain resilience requirements. Under the combined effect of these factors, people's demand for the automotive Internet of Things industry is increasing.

Deutsche Telekom IoT GmbH is deploying Mavenir's Remote Packet Gateway 4G and 5G Non-Standalone Networking (NSA) solutions to enable localized data splitting. The traffic will flow through two data centers in California and Virginia to support iot deployments across the North American continent.

The remote packet gateway uses converged packet core session management and user side functions that act as 4G components and replicate the control side and user side functions of the packet gateway. The separation of the control and user surfaces reduces user data latency, reduces the amount of data transmitted across the Atlantic, and supports advanced connectivity services in the vehicle with different billing options, including Internet radios, in-vehicle Wi-Fi, telemetry data, remote maps, and shortwave upgrades. In addition, Mavenir's solutions enable Deutsche Telekom IoT GmbH to offer international functionality and connectivity services to multinational companies, free from geographical or technological constraints.

Ashok Khuntia, President of Mavenir Core Networks, said: "We have deployed the Mavenir solution in collaboration with Deutsche Telekom IoT GmbH, which will provide a solid foundation for the future development of connected vehicles. "Automakers will benefit from advanced connectivity across the applications resulting from this partnership, and customer service will be significantly improved to meet today's needs while keeping up with future trends."
