Common LDO applications and models
A linear voltage Regulator (LDO) is a device for voltage regulation and voltage reduction that works primarily by subtracting excess voltage from the applied input voltage using a transistor or FET operating in its linear region to produce a regulated output voltage. The main feature of LDO is that it has a small input and output voltage difference, that is, the voltage drop voltage is low, which can meet the requirements of low-power applications, and provide a high-efficiency output voltage, thereby reducing the power consumption of the circuit.
The typical working principle of LDO is: the reference voltage Vref and the feedback voltage FB (VOUT through two resistors) are connected to the reverse and forward ends of the error amplifier, and then the error is output, and then the output voltage is adjusted through MOS drive to achieve output stability. When the output voltage increases, FB increases, the amplifier output voltage increases, the regulator grid voltage increases, the regulator source drain voltage decreases, and the output current and voltage decrease, forming a negative feedback system.
The advantages of LDO also include low noise, high precision, high stability and high efficiency, which can meet the requirements of a variety of applications. In addition, it has good anti-interference ability, which can effectively suppress external interference and ensure the stability of the system. In terms of peripheral circuits, the design of LDO is relatively simple and inexpensive, and no peripheral equipment is required except input and output plus filter capacitors, so it is ideal for low-cost solutions.
However, you need to pay attention to the difference between the input voltage and the output voltage when using LDO, otherwise the efficiency can be very low. Therefore, when designing the circuit, it is necessary to choose the appropriate LDO according to the actual demand, and carry out reasonable voltage and current design to ensure the stability and efficiency of the circuit.
In addition, LDO is widely used in a variety of electronic devices, Such as industrial controllers, UPS power supplies, blood pressure monitors, mobile handheld terminals, portable blood gas analyzer, fingerprint recognition, digital hearing AIDS, portable audio, portable media devices, LCD TVS, LCD monitors, LCD TV power supplies, laptops, mobile phones, computer motherboards, set-top boxes, printers, digital cameras, digital camcorders, advertising machines, car DVDS GPS, network player, LED backlight driver, etc. With the continuous development of science and technology, the application of LDO in more fields will also be expanded.
